The following is a selection of reports through the press. This does not include all outbreaks. It should be noted that more reports will be expected from countries with better surveillance systems, and frequency of reporting does not provide an indication of prevalence.

South Africa In Limpopo an outbreak of Foot-and-mouth disease was confirmed and identified as a SAT 3 strain.
Zambia Foot-and-mouth disease reported for the first time since 2012.

Cambodia Reoccurrence of highly pathogenic Avian Influenza virus H5N1 in ducks.
China A 4th wave of Avian Influenza H7N9 has begun. Due to seasonal behavior of the virus each winter, the country witnesses an upsurge in human infections (since 2013).
China Two human cases of Avian Influenza diagnosed, H7N9. Both patients had been exposed to poultry on live poultry markets.
China Increased incidence of Foot-and-mouth disease in porcine suspected in Liaoning province. Incidence of FMD increases significantly as the weather cools.
Hong Kong Avian Influenza H5N6 detected in wild birds, but no spread of disease.
India A man died of rabies after being bitten in the face by a dog whilst asleep.
India First case of rabies reported in a domestic fowl (a chicken) in the country.
Indonesia More than 17,000 people were bitten by dogs in Bali in the first 6 months of 2015, 12 of whom died. Only half of the estimated 500,000 stray dogs in Bali have been vaccinated against rabies, posing a risk to the 4 million tourists every year.
Kyrgyzstan A dog with rabies bit a number of animals and people in Uchar village.
Laos Reoccurrence of highly pathogenic Avian Influenza virus H5N6.
Mongolia Foot-and-mouth disease outbreak; identified as O serotype.
Pakistan A huge outbreak of Avian Influenza.
South Korea A 35-year-old man tested positive for the MERS virus. Since Korea's first MERS case on 20 May 2015, the disease has infected 186 people, killing 36 of them.
South Korea A new case of highly pathogenic Avian Influenza confirmed on a poultry farm, H5N8 strain. The outbreak is viewed as a continuation of the outbreak lasting from September 2014 to June 2015.
Taiwan Further outbreaks of highly pathogenic Avian Influenza, H5N2.
Taiwan Human exposure to canine rabies. A tourist confirmed to have been infected with the virus on Bali Island.
Vietnam Continued outbreaks of Avian Influenza virus H5N6.
Vietnam Continued outbreaks of highly pathogenic Avian Influenza virus H5N1.

Austria Koi Herpesvirus diagnosed in a closed hobby carp pond; first occurrence in the history of the country. KHV is a highly contagious virus that causes significant morbidity and mortality in common carp varieties.
Austria A number of cattle found positive for Bluetongue serotype 4 during surveillance.
Croatia Reoccurrence of Bluetongue serotype 4.
Czech Republic Conducted a simulation exercise on Avian Influenza.
Bosnia & Herzegovina Bluetongue disease has been reported on cattle and sheep farms.
France Further outbreaks of Bluetongue, serotype 8.
France Seven outbreaks of West Nile disease in horses.
France First human case of West Nile fever in France since 2003.
France Highly pathogenic Avian Influenza: H5N1 and H5N2 HPAI outbreaks.
France Low pathogenic Avian Influenza virus H5N3 detected.
Germany Low pathogenic Avian Influenza virus H5N2 confirmed.
Germany Bat rabies virus (EBLV) has been confirmed in a Serotine bat.
Georgia Seventy-five cases of suspected Lumpy Skin disease in cattle; results of tests are awaited.
Greece Continued new outbreaks of Lumpy Skin disease.
Hungary Further outbreaks of Bluetongue, BTV4.
Lithuania Raccoon Dog diagnosed with rabies.
Norway A dead bat was identified as being infected with rabies. This is the first case on the mainland for almost 200 years.
Norway Conducted a real-time simulation exercise of an outbreak of a contagious zoonotic disease.
Romania Further outbreaks of Bluetongue, BTV4.
Russia Three new outbreaks of Lumpy Skin disease; continuation of previous outbreak (July 2015).
Slovenia Bluetongue virus detected in cattle during the national monitoring program.
Turkey Bluetongue disease has been reported on cattle and sheep farms.
Ukraine Dead pigs tested positive for African Swine fever (Poltava region).
United Kingdom One cow died of anthrax. This is the first occurrence of the disease in the UK since 2006.

Iran An outbreak of Swine flu (H1N1).
Israel Epizootic Haemorrhagic disease detected for the first time since 2006.
Israel Foot-and-mouth disease detected on a pig farm.
Israel Foot-and-mouth disease reported in sheep; tentative result of serotyping is FMDV-O.
Palestine Spread of highly pathogenic Avian Influenza virus A5; 1 new outbreak. The recent 7 outbreaks are spread throughout the Gaza Strip. The similarity to the HPAI H5N1 strain currently circulating in Egypt and infecting humans is not confirmed yet.
Saudi Arabia New strain of Foot-and-mouth disease virus reported by OIE, bovine and ovine, serotype A. Clinical disease, origin of infection unknown.
Turkey Woman bitten by a dog later diagnosed with rabies.   
Turkey Foot-and-mouth disease outbreak of new A serotype. The new strain is of close genetic relation to recent type A isolates from Saudi Arabia and the Indian subcontinent.
Turkey Bluetongue virus, BTV4, detected in sheep.

North America

Canada A species of invasive, disease-carrying mosquito has been found in British Columbia — the first such discovery in Western Canada. The mosquito has the potential to transmit several diseases, including West Nile virus, varieties of encephalitis, and dengue fever.
Canada Avian Influenza: a case of the avian flu virus has been confirmed in the Fraser Valley (southwestern British Columbia, BC), after a duck was shot by a hunter earlier this week or on the weekend.
Canada Rabies confirmed in a raccoon.
US Contract to create an Avian Influenza bank of 48 million doses awarded to Harrisvaccines.
US – Arizona Cat hit by a car later diagnosed with rabies.
US – California Mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus have spread the disease to epidemic levels in Riverside County. With 80 cases and 5 deaths, the county holds the second-highest number of reported human cases of WNV in California.
US – California Equine case of West Nile virus.
US – Idaho Large Bluetongue outbreak killing white-tailed deer.
US – Kentucky Horses tested positive for West Nile virus.
US – Louisiana One new case of West Nile virus reported, bringing the year’s total cases up to 55, with a total number of 4 deaths. Health officials are urging people to stay protected even in cooler weather.
US – New Jersey Two people bitten by a cat that later tested positive for rabies.
US – New Jersey First reported equine case of West Nile virus in the state in 2015.
US – New Jersey Dog rescued from Egypt and brought to the state subsequently found to have rabies.
US – North Carolina Three children bitten by a fox that tested positive for rabies.
US – Oregon    Horses tested positive for West Nile virus.
US – Oregon Third rabies case in humans confirmed after exposure to a rabid bat.
US – Oregon H5 Avian Influenza has been found in a wild mallard duck.
US – Pennsylvania   People exposed to rabid cats found in the Lehigh Valley. Stray cats found in Lehigh County recently tested positive for rabies.
US – South Carolina Human exposure to a raccoon with rabies.
US – Texas Two people diagnosed with West Nile Neuroinvasive disease. Nine deaths reported since the year started, which is an increase compared to six deaths out of 379 human cases of West Nile illness reported in Texas in 2014.
US – Washington Large Bluetongue outbreak killing white-tailed deer.
US – Wyoming The first recorded case of rabies in a human after a woman contracted the disease, possibly after exposure to a bat.
