OIE reported bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE). Atypical BSE, type H, was identified in a 11-year-old beef cow. This is the 5th case of atypical BSE detected in Brazil during 23 years of surveillance. This case and the case reported in the State of Minas Gerais are isolated events. The meat and other products of this animal will not enter the food chain and do not represent a risk to ruminant populations.
