OIE reported that the Nordic and Baltic Countries – Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden and Faroe Islands – will jointly conduct a simulation exercise on foot and mouth disease (FMD) from 13 to 14 November 2019 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The objectives include training on FMD emergency vaccination programmes and exit strategies.

Mexico has become the first country in the world to receive validation from the World Health Organization (WHO) for eliminating dog-mediated rabies as a public health problem. This was achieved through vaccination of dogs with more than 80% coverage.

OIE reported that Argentina is running a simulation of a foot and mouth disease (FMD) outbreak 11 to 15 November 2019. The objective of the exercise is to practice and test the capacity for early response.
