Reports received of first human death this year from West Nile virus (WNV) in Fresno county.

According to the Kern County Public Health Department, 2 more cases of West Nile virus (WNV) were found in the county, bringing the total cases to 12. Kern County ranks 2 in the number of total cases behind Fresno County with 44 cases. Other counties with reported cases include Butte County with 4, Imperial with 3, and Amador with 1.

Researchers detected antibodies used to fight off West Nile virus (WNV) in 50 percent of the sentinel chicken population in an Indian River County flock, as OIE reported by the Indian River County Mosquito Control District.
